Kate,
You do not entertain fear, you quell it and gracefully almost effortlessly conquer it. This is a gift you give to others in your vocation as midwife. Thank you for offering yourself to others in this service and allowing others to experience fearlessness in action. T.W.

I love to walk and hike with a woman in labor. Years ago I went white water rafting on the Rio Gande River and I was so afraid. To me it was a roiling, raging river filled with rocks and danger. The guide was fearless and brought us safely to the end point. I was proud and exhilarated, I rafted the Rio Grande! When I reflected on it I realized the guide knew every rock and eddy because she took boat loads of people down the same stretch of river many times every day. I use this metaphor as a midwife. I am a river or mountain guide. I have the equipment I have knowledge of the terrain and if a family hires me and all the conditions are safe and remain safe we will set off together and I will guide them through the woods, over the mountain and down the river. I will say "watch out for that slippery place-don't fall" ..."the river is dangerous right here-paddle hard" . At the end of the journey it will be very clear who enjoyed the view, it will be the family that showed me a view of the familiar terrain that I had never seen.

I became a doula out of my interest in reducing the primary trauma to humans that often comes with birth. After a decade of educating, guiding, and walking with 100's of families as they got close to birthing the way they wanted. I saw excessive negotiation with care providers and the random protocols of the medical model as an impediment to a safe gentle birth.
I decided the better way for me to reduce birth trauma was to become a midwife and provide supportive prenatal care, gentle birth guidance and nurturing postpartum care.

My interest is in natural childbirth and parenting.
I define natural as each parent accessing and cultivating their own natural instinct and abilities to birth,  nurture, protect and educate each child with joy and confidence .
I am a Licensed Midwife / Certified Professional Midwife. Graduate of the National College of Midwifery
Certified Birth Doula with Heart and Hands Midwifery School , a certified Postpartum Doula with DONA, and a graduate of the four-year energy healing program Barbara Brennan School of Healing I have additional training in family dynamics child development and HypnoBirthing.

I am the mother of two grown sons. I have been working with families giving birth since 1996.
Working with parents is a passion for me. With preparation and support, giving birth and becoming a parent is not only a joy, but a great opportunity for personal growth. With personalized care that matches your unique needs, the expansion of your family is supported and celebrated. I provide Midwifery Care, childbirth preparation, labor support, and birth planning.
