Kate, I have been wanting to write you to let you know how thankful I am that you were a part of Jacks birth and how thankful I am that you encouraged us to have a homebirth. I look back on the days surrounding Jacks birth and have such good memories. Thank you for all you did for us...driving out a day early to calm my first-child anxiety, being nearby during contractions, encouraging me through the whole labor, and for catching Jack! I knew we were in good hands. It was an incredible experience. I can not thank you enough for guiding us to the homebirth decision and for staying with us through it all,

Dear Kate and Carole,
Words cannot express my appreciation for what you helped me to do for myself, my womanhood, my motherhood, my marriage and my family.
I came to you as an angry VBAC mom, feeling jilted and screwed by the traditional medical establishment. After my first initial phone call with Kate I felt as though my search was over, and the subsequent meeting with both of you solidified the decision for my husband and I. Over the course of our visits, both of you expressed your faith in me, my body, and nature and I truly left with a sense of calm after each visit, a feeling I have never had with a healthcare provider.
When my sons birth was approaching I was excited, as much by his impending arrival, then the fact that my body works! We were blessed to have you both and your student midwife as a part of his birthday party. You gave my husband, and Doula time to help me and carefully observed from the background, but were somehow right there when I needed you. I never once felt pressured or as if this was not my process, you both gave me the control. When the moment arrived I clearly remember how even and calm Kate's voice was as she told me to push and that I could do it, I trusted her implicitly and the moment that would follow has changed my life beyond belief. The care, patience, and kindness that both Kate and Carole showed to my family was extraordinary, and I am forever grateful.
So I say all this to say thank you to both, and please know that you did not just deliver Gavin that Saturday morning, but you delivered me, from feelings of inadequacy, inferiority and anger.

"I can't thank Kate and Carole enough for all their help and support during my home birth and after. I was in labor for nearly 12 hours and through it all, my midwives were there offering words of encouragement, swaying with me, massaging my lower back, stroking my hair--anything I needed to get through my contractions. I call them my phantom angels because they were there when I needed them yet they would also fade into the background to give me and my husband our own space and intimacy.
I found that I liked the pushing part of labor the most because it signaled that the baby was arriving soon. But even though I liked it, pushing didn't prove to be easy. We tried many different positions, from squatting to kneeling, to lying on my side, until we finally found what worked. To add to that, the baby's head crowned for close to 5 minutes. There's no doubt in my mind that had I been in a hospital setting, I would have been given an episiotomy. But Kate and Carole worked with me to avoid tearing, applying warm compresses, and even encouraging me to kiss my husband to relax the muscles. A few smooches and a good push later, our glorious baby girl came into the world.
I learned a valuable lesson from my midwives that day. I learned that if you don't get the results you want the first or even the second time around, keep trying until you find what works for you. This lesson carried over to my postpartum visits as well. Carole came over soon after the baby for a well visit. She stayed with me a good while, making sure the baby and I were in good health and teaching me good technique for breast feeding. Kate visited me too; we had lunch and reminisced about the delivery. I feel blessed to have had such nurturing midwives at my side. I wholeheartedly recommend Kate and Carole to anyone looking to have a natural home birth!"
